We all know that healthy eating can be a challenge given our busy schedules, but it is actually one of the easiest, highest return ways to improve your health. Eating healthier will not only make you FEEL BETTER, it will give you the most ‘bang for your buck’ when you’re trying to start on a healthier journey. Below you will find four principles for eating healthy and why they are important.

Whole Foods

Choosing whole (real) foods vs. processed food helps you avoid unnecessary additives and tons of hidden sugar. For just one week, don’t eat anything that has more than 3 ingredients on the label and see how muc better you feel. Of course, those include any vegetable, fruit, beans and whole grains. These foods are the best for creating tasty, healthy and energy boosting meals.

Plant-Strong

When eating any meal, try to focus on incorporating plant-based foods into every meal. When eating more plant based foods such as fruits, beans, nuts, seeds and whole grains you are providing your body with the key nutrients you need to function at the top of your game. Eating a variety of colorful plants will help lead you to a feeling of satisfaction.

Healthy Fats

Are there such things? Of course! Whole plant-based foods like avocados, seeds and nuts provide your body with healthy fats. By eating these types of foods and combining that with the elimination of cooking with processed fats and extracted oils will help increase the quality of the foods you cook.

Nutrient Dense

Once again, focus on plant-based foods and those rich in micronutrients to keep your body healthy. Again, think COLOR! Stay away from white (except for cauliflower :0). You will be amazed at how less hungry you are when you’re not feeding your body empty calories!

Focusing on these four simple principles and mixing in some movement a couple times a week, will get you well on your way to feeling healthier, stronger and more alert every day.
